Drive safe, arrive safe
A short refresher on the things that prevent most avoidable crashes.

Red light
Traffic must stop before the stop line.
Stop completely and wait. Do not enter the junction or block the pedestrian crossing.
Amber / yellow light
The signal is about to change.
Slow down and stop if you can do so safely. Do not accelerate to beat the light.
Green light
You may proceed if the way ahead is clear.
Check for pedestrians and crossing traffic before moving off.
Flashing amber
Proceed with caution — the junction is unregulated.
Give way to traffic already in the junction and to pedestrians.
Mandatory signs
Usually circular. They tell you what you must or must not do; ignoring them is an offence.
Cautionary signs
Usually triangular. They warn about a hazard ahead so you can slow down in time.
Informatory signs
Usually rectangular. They guide you to facilities, directions and distances.
Belt up, every seat
Seat belts for everyone in the car and a suitable restraint for children. Helmets for both rider and pillion.
Phone down
Set navigation and music before you move off. Handling a phone while driving is both dangerous and an offence.
Keep a safe gap
Leave at least a three-second gap to the vehicle ahead, and more in rain, fog or heavy traffic.
Match the speed to the road
Posted limits are maximums for good conditions, not targets. Slow down near schools, markets and junctions.
Rest before you're tired
Break every two hours on a long drive. Fatigue reduces reaction time as much as alcohol does.
Never drink and drive
There is no safe amount. Plan a ride, a driver or a stay before the first drink.
Drive defensively at night
Dip your headlights for oncoming traffic, keep your windscreen clean and expect unlit vehicles and animals.
Check the basics weekly
Tyre pressure and tread, lights, indicators, wipers, brake feel and fluid levels take five minutes.
Make the scene safe
Switch on hazard lights, move to the left shoulder if the vehicle is drivable, and place a warning triangle well behind.
Check people first
Look after injuries before vehicles. Do not move a seriously injured person unless they are in immediate danger.
Call for help
Use the national emergency number 112 in India. Give the road name, direction of travel and nearest landmark.
Record what happened
Photograph positions, damage and number plates, and note the other driver's details before vehicles are moved.
Tell your insurer early
Most policies expect prompt notice. Keep the claim reference with your documents in AutoLife AI.
